Calumet Sail and Power Squadron is a member of the
United States Power Squadrons
®. Dedicated to safe boating
through education, we offer Boating Safety classes to the public and
additional classes to our members.
The Calumet Sail and Power
Squadron consists of boating enthusiasts with vessels ranging in
size from kayaks to motor yachts used on creeks, rivers, inland
lakes, and the Great Lakes within the region. A passion for boating
is shared by a membership represented by a variety of professions
and diverse backgrounds – with all members having a common interest
in learning and boating education.
Recognizing the many
constraints and responsibilities of work and family, Calumet Sail
and Power Squadron offers several opportunities and ways to
participate. Classes taught by certified, award-winning instructors
are offered throughout the year. In these classes, instructors share
their knowledge and on-the-water experiences with learners of all
ages. The exchange of boating information in a typical class is
invaluable for both new and seasoned boaters.
Commitment to boating safety
is our number one priority, but fun and fellowship also play an
important role in the Squadron. General meetings occur on five
Friday nights throughout the year and feature dinner with special
guest speakers, presentations, and activities. These meetings
provide an excellent venue to meet local boaters from the region in
a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. Planned special activities include
events such as Rendezvous Cruises, Steak Frys, Beer-and-Brat
Picnics, and more. Support of selected civic activities and
charities are also a part of the Squadron’s mission.
Calumet Sail and Power
Squadron is well known for its Vessel Safety Check Program. Having
reached the status as one of the top five squadrons in the nation
for the number of vessel safety checks in a single season, Calumet
consistently has lead District 20 annually in this important effort.
Becoming a certified Vessel Safety Check Examiner and performing
examinations is a great way to become familiar with different boats
and boating locations while helping to promote safe boating.
Leadership opportunities are
also available for members in a variety of officer positions at the
Squadron, District, and National level. And, throughout the years,
Calumet Sail and Power Squadron members have been privileged to
serve in all of these levels. District and National conferences
offer a chance to interact with members from other Squadrons and
Districts.
Through membership, and
participation in a few or all Squadron activities, you become a
member of a large network of individuals committed to boating
education. Working together with other dedicated members offers
great personal satisfaction. In addition, in these efforts, many
acquaintances become lasting friendships.
We welcome all those who
are interested in joining the proud members of the Calumet Sail and
Power Squadron.
